Why it works when the real launcher doesn't

Desktop Minecraft needs an installer, a Java runtime and a Microsoft account. On a managed school device you usually have none of those - installation is blocked at the OS level, and that's the end of it.

Eaglercraft sidesteps the problem entirely. It's a port of Minecraft that compiles to WebAssembly and JavaScript, so the whole game runs inside the browser tab you already have open. There is no installer to run, no admin password to enter and nothing written to the device. To the network it looks like an ordinary HTTPS website, because that's exactly what it is.

Getting the best performance on a Chromebook

School Chromebooks are typically low-memory machines, so a few choices make a real difference:

• Pick 1.8.8, not 1.12.2. The older version is dramatically lighter and is the smoothest option on weak hardware.
• Pick the WASM client. WebAssembly runs far closer to native speed than the JavaScript build. Only fall back to JS if WASM refuses to load.
• Close other tabs. The game wants as much memory as it can get; a dozen open tabs will cost you frames.
• Turn the render distance down in Options → Video Settings once you're in. This is the single biggest FPS lever.
• Let the first load finish. The client downloads its assets once and caches them, so the second visit starts much faster.

This isn't a stripped-down demo. You're joining a full multiplayer network with four gamemodes:

• Survival - gather, build and settle in with homes and teleport requests.
• Skyblock - start on a floating island with almost nothing and build an empire.
• Practice - ranked 1v1 duels across a range of kits, with per-kit ELO.
• Pitfall - a Hypixel-style PvP arena with upgrades and rank progression.

If the page itself is blocked

Some filters block by category or keyword and will catch a gaming site regardless of how it's built. Others allow normal browsing but block the wss:// WebSocket connection the game needs to reach the server, which shows up as the client loading fine but failing to connect.

If that's happening, there's no trick we can offer that doesn't amount to evading your school's filter - and we're not going to suggest that. Play from home or a personal hotspot instead, and see the server IP page for connection troubleshooting that isn't filter-related.
