Version 1.8.8

Eaglercraft 1.8.8 server

The classic PvP-era Minecraft, running in your browser on CarrotCraft. Lightest on low-end hardware and the best-supported version on the network.

Why 1.8.8 is still the version people ask for

Minecraft 1.9 replaced instant-hit melee with a cooldown-based attack system. It's a reasonable change for survival, and it fundamentally rewrote competitive PvP. A large part of the community never moved on, which is why 1.8 remains the default for PvP servers a decade later.

1.8.8 gives you the combat people actually practise: no attack cooldown, classic reach and knockback, and the rod-and-pearl techniques that skill-based PvP is built around. If you're here to fight, this is the version you want.

It's also by far the lighter of our two versions. If you're on a school Chromebook or an older laptop, start here - see the unblocked guide for performance tips.

WASM or JavaScript?

Both clients play identically and connect to the same world. The difference is how the game code is delivered to your browser.

  • WASM (recommended) - compiled WebAssembly. Noticeably faster, smoother frame pacing, and a smaller download. Try this first.
  • JavaScript - a larger, more compatible build. Use it only if the WASM client won't start on your device or browser.

Both are pre-configured to connect straight to CarrotCraft, so there's no address to type. Full comparison on the launcher page.

What you can play on 1.8.8

All four CarrotCraft gamemodes are on the network: Survival, Skyblock, Practice and Pitfall. Pitfall and Practice in particular are built around 1.8-style combat, so this is the natural client for them.

Already have your own Eaglercraft client?

You don't have to use our launcher. Add wss://eagler.carrot-craft.org to any 1.8 Eaglercraft client and you'll land on the same network - the server IP page walks through it.

Prefer 1.12.2? That's here too - see Eaglercraft 1.12.2.

Eaglercraft 1.8.8 FAQ

Is Eaglercraft 1.8.8 free to play?

Yes. CarrotCraft is free and there is nothing to buy to stay competitive. Open the client in your browser and you're in - no download, no installer and no Mojang account.

Does 1.8.8 have the old PvP combat?

Yes. 1.8.8 predates the 1.9 combat update, so there is no attack cooldown. You get classic reach, knockback and click-speed-based melee - the reason most PvP servers still run 1.8.

Should I use the WASM or JavaScript client?

Use WASM first. It's compiled WebAssembly, so it runs faster, streams a smaller download and holds a steadier frame rate. Switch to the JavaScript build only if WASM won't start on your device.

Will Eaglercraft 1.8.8 run on a school Chromebook?

It's the best option for one. 1.8.8 is far lighter than 1.12.2, and paired with the WASM client it's the smoothest combination on low-memory hardware.
